Homemade Bagel Chips

Are you ready to make your own crispy homemade bagel chips? This is a super simple snack recipe (well technically not a recipe) that is a great way to use up leftover bagels.

These chips are so good you’ll be intentionally buying extra bagels to make them. Use any type of bagel you like, whether stale or fresh, though stale bagels will bake quicker.

If your bagels are not seasoned already, toss the chips with your own spice mix or just garlic powder and salt.

I slice them at 1/4-inch-disc however they can be sliced to your desired thickness. I dry roast mine to make them last longer but if you like, use oil or butter or a combination of both for brushing before toasting.

Storage: Store in an airtight bag or container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.

  1. If baking in the oven, position a rack in the middle and preheat to 400 degrees. If using the air fryer, set to 350 degrees and preheat.
  1. Start by slicing your bagel pieces into thin slices, about 1/4 inch thick. Cut the bagel in half then slice at a slight angle using a serrated knife. See the photos of this step or watch the video to help you visualize the process!
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together the oil and butter. Toss the sliced bagel pieces in the bowl.
  3. Lay the chips in a single layer to the baking sheet. Bake for 12 to 18 minutes, or until the chips are crisp and golden brown.
  • If using the air fryer, transfer the bagel slices to the air fryer basket and bake at 350°F for 15 to 20 minutes, or until crisp and golden, stirring the chips frequently during baking.

Let the chips cool completely before serving or storing.

Serve with dips,  cream cheese,  hummus, spinach and artichoke dip,  guacamole, pico de gallo, layer on a cheese board, filler for charcuterie board, or use a topping for soups, salads or if you are like me with cubes of sharp white cheddar, as a solo afternoon snack.
